Configure version upgrades
HCP Vault Dedicated lets you manage the upgrade window for your clusters. For Essentials and Standard tiers, you can:
- Set your cluster to upgrade both major and minor version releases automatically.
- Configure a specific upgrade window for major version upgrades.
- Manually update your cluster for both major and minor versions.
When a specific Vault Enterprise version approaches its end-of-life on HCP, existing HCP Vault Dedicated users receive a notification to upgrade to a supported version.
For standard-tier clusters with performance replication, or disaster recovery replication, the secondary clusters follow the upgrade settings of their primary cluster. Secondary clusters do not display the Upgrade settings menu.
Log into the HCP Portal.
From the Vault clusters page, click the Vault cluster you want to manage upgrade settings for.
Click Upgrade settings in the left navigation menu.
Click Edit settings.
Under Select major version upgrade schedule, select either Automatic, Manual, or Scheduled.
Automatic: Applies the latest validated version.
Scheduled: Sets a specific day and time window for HCP to apply available upgrades.
Manual: Lets you upgrade your cluster within the upgrade grace period (90 days). If you have not upgraded by the end of the grace period, the cluster is automatically upgraded. When an upgrade is available, you receive an email and a notification in the HCP Portal.
Click Apply changes.
